OMLOWENHE - A Celebration of Cornish Culture
I am delighted to announce the release of OMLOWENHE, a short poetic film celebrating the vibrant arts and cultural scene in Cornwall.
Produced thanks to a commission from Cornwall 365 and Screen Cornwall and thanks to funding from Arts Council England Culture Recovery Fund, and Cornwall Council Creative Cornwall Calling. Cinematography and editing by A Life Well Productions.
I would like to thank the community who donated their time and home footage to make this video possible, and the companies and cultural producers who allowed me into their spaces during a pandemic to film this celebratory poem, especially The Museum of Cornish Life, Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek, Heartlands, and Leedstown Village Hall.
"Omlowenhe is a Cornish word meaning ‘to celebrate’. In this short poetic film, writer and performer Taran Spalding-Jenkin celebrates Cornish events and what they mean to us, using home footage donated by the community. It has been a tough year for events, with many of them cancelled or forced to make changes - Omlowenhe is designed to be a thank you to all those who produce or take part in Cornwall’s rich arts and culture scene, and a promise that we aren’t going anywhere."
